Boat Permit Information

Boat storage, including canoes, kayaks, rowboats, dingys, etc., is prohibited on the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area at all times, except in the Duck Lake Sirdar area (see location description below) where boats can be stored, only if a valid annual permit is purchased and displayed.

Permits are available for purchase at a fixed cost of $25 (includes GST) and are valid from April 1st to March 31st of the following year. One permit will be required for each boat. Any boat found to not have a permit will be removed from the premises by the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Authority.

Once your transaction is processed by our office, we will mail you your permit decal. Please affix this to the outside of your boat in a visible spot.

Location description: Boats can only be stored at the Duck Lake Sirdar area (shoreline along east side of Duck Lake, accessed directly across the road from the Sirdar General Store / Sirdar Pub on Hwy 3A). Storage of boats at other locations within the CVMWA boundaries is prohibited.

Hunting Permit Information

To hunt on the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area property, a permit from the Creston Valley Wildlife Management Authority is required. All provincial rules and regulations apply.

Permits cost $10 (includes GST) and are valid from April 1st to March 31st of the following year.

Once your transaction is processed by our office, we will send you your permit. Please have the permit with you while hunting on the CVWMA property.

Proof of liability insurance, a minimum of $1,000,000 3rd party liability insurance, must be provided before a permit can be taken out. If you have a membership with the British Columbia Wildlife Federation (BCWF) then you have the appropriate liability insurance through them. Insurance can also be obtained through most local Rod and Gun Clubs, your home insurance or other method of your choice.

Please adhere to the following rules and regulations when hunting on the CVWMA property:

Please note that at the CVWMA, waterfowl hunting season does not open until October 1st.

  • No ATV or vehicle access is permitted except in designated areas (Duck Lake dykes only). Please see CVWMA Access Map with Hunting Boundaries 2009 for details.

  • No gates will be opened for hunter access.

  • Non-motorized boats are allowed. Motorized boats are restricted to 10 horsepower or less (except on Kootenay River where any horsepower is permitted) and are prohibited from Duck Lake Unit and the Recreation Area around Wildlife Interpretation Centre.

  • Construction of observation and hunting blinds by individual members of the public is allowed where hunting is permitted. Observation and hunting blinds built on the CVWMA become open to use by the general public.

  • Leave No Trace – Minimize your impact on the environment by treading lightly. Please pack out what you pack in!

Project Application Form

Projects to be conducted on the CVWMA must match the mandate, mission and goals of the CVWMA. Please refer to CVWMA documentation available on www.crestonwildlife.ca/about.html. Preference will be given to projects that complement and do not duplicate the work of other agencies/organizations or individuals, and that involve partnership with the CVWMA or other groups whenever possible.

Projects will be reviewed by the CVWMA for achievability, biological soundness and CVWMA desirability. Permits (with terms and conditions) may be issued based in part on the information provided here. Note that this is not a funding application form.
