HOW TO GET HERE ...

Follow the birds! ... or if you are driving:

The Creston Valley Wildlife Management Area is located in southern British Columbia, Canada. The Creston Valley runs north-south though the Kootenay mountain district just west of the Rocky Mountains. Highway 3, also known as 'The Crow's Nest Highway', runs east-west across the middle of the Creston Valley and also through the middle of the Creston Valley Wildlife Mangement Area.

It's easy to get here by driving from the east or west on Highway 3. If you are coming from the north then you may choose Highway 3A which runs through Nelson to the free ferry at Balfour then south to Highway 3. Turn right heading west when you get to the junction with Highway 3 just north of the town of Creston. If you are coming from the south head north up Highway 2 through northern Idaho in the USA, cross the border at Rykerts/Porthill and turn left (heading west) on Highway 3 about six miles (ten kilometers) north of the border. Please note that Idaho Highway 2 turns into British Columbia Highway 21 at the border crossing. The CVWMA office and also the Wildlife Centre are located just south of Highway 3 on the west side of the valley. Turn south on West Creston Road from Highway 3 and the Wildlife Centre is about 1 km from the highway, just look for the big red roof on your left.

The CVWMA management offices and Wildlife Centre are just west of the town of Creston, B.C. (about a ten-minute drive) and you can easily locate it on this Yahoo map then zoom in to get a better view of the Creston Valley and highways:

The Creston Valley is part of the renowned 'International Selkirk Loop', which is reputed to be one of the most scenic drives in the world. The link above takes you to a great driving map of the the Selkirk Loop drive area covering Washington, Idaho and British Columbia.

If you are flying (and you're NOT a bird) there is a small airport just south of the town of Creston, B.C., another small airport at Sand Point in Idaho only about 65 miles from the CVWMA, and there is an International airport slated to open in 2007 located about an hour-and-a-half drive in Cranbrook, B.C.
